Serving Locally

These are some of the local initiatives that our church members actively support:

Salvation Army: Our church supports the Barcelona branch of Salvation Army through regular food donations. They serve breakfast every day to around 100 people, and distribute bags of groceries each week to families in need.

Sabadell Donations: This is a service of providing secondhand clothes to needy families through the Spanish Anglican church in Sabadell. Some 9,200 items of clothing, 3,200 bags of food, 35 school packs and toys for 70 children are distributed a year. Donations are accepted at St George’s year round and delivered to Sabadell on a regular basis.

Escola Guimbarda: Special education centre in Barcelona for children with learning disabilities and special needs. www.guimbarda.com

Shoebox Charity: At Christmas we put together festive care packages filled with practical items (eg toothbrush, razors, soap, shampoo, deodorant, scarf, gloves, hat etc) plus a few goodies (turron, chocolates) which are then delivered via the Salvation Army to people living rough in Barcelona.

Ecumenical Links: We periodically hold joint services with our local Roman Catholic church, the Parroquia de la Mare de Deu, on Pl. de la Bonanova. We are hoping to strengthen this link and also explore other ways in which we can work more closely with other churches in Barcelona.
